History of DITIB Zentralmoschee Köln
The DITIB Zentralmoschee Köln was designed by Paul Böhm and inaugurated in September 2018. Built on the site of a former DITIB mosque, it replaced a building too small for Cologne's Muslim community. The mosque features a transparent glass dome 37 metres in diameter and two minarets rising 55 metres, creating a contemporary Islamic landmark that sparked years of public debate about Islam's place in German society. It can accommodate 1,200 worshippers in the main prayer hall.
